2023 Studio Update
Greetings! It has been a while since my last post (way back in November, whoops) so here is a bit of an update to let you know what I have been working on. In addition to Feral Star, I also contribute art to G.H.O.S.T. Agents which is a spy-fi, action thriller comic written by Rocko Jerome and published by Eli Schwab of Cosmic Lion Productions. I am happy to announce that we have produced a treasury-sized edition of the first three GA books! It is an oversized, 8.7 by 13.3 inch, 120 page book on newsprint. It is a real thing of beauty. You can purchase a copy directly from Cosmic Lion Productions at this link:

So many talented creators worked on these stories. You can see the complete list in the description on the Cosmic Lion site. Also, be sure to check out all the other great books that Eli has available on the site. He is a real champion of independent cartoonists and a swell guy too. It has been a pleasure working with Rocko, Eli, and the whole G.H.O.S.T. Agents crew.
In July 2022, I was invited to Helioscope in Portland, OR as a visiting artist. Helioscope is a collective of cartoonists, illustrators, writers, and designers that was founded in 2002. It has been a real pleasure to work alongside such a talented group of creators these past few months. The highlight of the week is Wednesday when more of the studio members make it a point to come into the studio to work. Recently, a new video was posted to the Helioscope YouTube channel that gives a glimpse of what these Wednesday Workparties look like. Check it out:
In Feral Star news, I am steadily scripting out what will become Feral Star #1 and my hope is to begin drawing the pages in early February. I have set up a pretty ambitious schedule for myself in an effort to have the book ready for some local conventions in the fall. Feral Star #0, the 16 page, ashcan comic that started this Substack, is still getting attention. This week, the amazing Michael Fitzgerald Troy gave it a flip-through on his YouTube channel. Michael is an enthusiastic champion of comics both mainstream and indy books. Check out his channel for some great comic book reviews.
Well, I think that is all the news I have to share for now. I hope to have another big announcement in the coming weeks so stay tuned. Thank you for subscribing to my Substack! Please be sure to spread the word by hitting the “Share Feral Star” button and feel free to leave me a comment or question. I will be happy to reply.
Cheers!
John
